Give Greatly: Joy in Generosity, Giving, and Gratitude

by Morgan Farr

As women in the military community, the call to serve is something that we are all aware of. Beyond our duty to our country, our faith encourages us to extend our services to others by generously giving our time and money. Second Corinthians 9:6-7 tells us, “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Give Greatly

Second Corinthians 9:6-7 emphasizes the principle of reaping what you sow. Just as a farmer’s harvest depends on the amount of seeds planted, your generosity determines the impact of your giving. Whether offering your time or contributing financially, embracing a generous spirit allows blessings to flow into your life.

As you sow into the lives of others, you’ll find that you reap the rewards of joy, fulfillment, and meaningful connections. By giving freely of your resources, you bless others and enrich your life in unforeseen ways. It’s important to note that this enrichment doesn’t always manifest in material wealth alone. Instead, it often manifests as increased joy, a sense of purpose, and an enduring legacy of positive influence.

Joy in Generosity

Amid your military commitments, finding time to give back might seem challenging. However, your unique experiences and skills can be a source of inspiration and encouragement to others. Consider volunteering in community service projects, mentorship programs, or church activities.

Your presence and guidance can profoundly impact individuals in need of your support. Matthew 5:16 (ESV) reminds us, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Your journey as a military woman or military wife is marked by courage, resilience, and adaptability. These qualities are vital on the field and serve as a source of inspiration for others facing their own battles in life.

Consider how your experiences, be it in leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, or navigating challenging situations, can be shared to uplift and empower those around you. Your unique perspective adds a layer of authenticity and relatability that can make a significant difference in the lives of those you choose to serve.

The Power of Giving

Your financial resources, no matter the size, can be a force for good in the lives of others. By contributing to charitable causes, missions, and community initiatives, you play a vital role in making positive changes. Proverbs 11:24-25 (ESV) states, “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will be watered.” Your financial support could provide food and shelter to the homeless, education to underserved children, medical assistance to the sick, or relief to disaster-stricken communities.

Each dollar you invest becomes a beacon of hope, representing not just your generosity but the collective effort of individuals who believe in the power of compassion to bring about change.

Gratitude, Love, and Prayer

While financial contributions are undoubtedly impactful, the heart behind your giving is equally significant. As 2 Corinthians 9:7 teaches, your giving should come from a willing heart, not out of compulsion. Prayerfully consider where and how you can give with your time and finances. Seek God’s guidance in discerning the causes that resonate with your values and align with your faith.

Your generosity reflects your love for God and others when you give joyfully and intentionally. A compassionate heart that genuinely cares for the well-being of others amplifies the power of your generosity. Whether you can provide a little or a lot, the motivation to make a difference springs from a heart rooted in love and compassion.

Ultimately, your acts of generosity transcend the temporal realm. You’re investing in eternal treasures by generously giving your time and money. Jesus Himself reminds us in Matthew 6:20, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Your acts of love and kindness echo in eternity, leaving a lasting legacy of faith and compassion.

So What?

As Christian women in the military, the call to give generously can be a testament to your dedication to your country and faith. Your position as a Christian military woman provides a platform to lead by example. Showcasing a spirit of generosity can inspire your peers and subordinates to do the same. As you give selflessly, you create a ripple effect that extends beyond your immediate circle, impacting the larger military community and beyond.

Whether through sharing your time or contributing financially, your generosity ripples through communities, leaving a profound impact. Embrace the words of 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 and give with a cheerful heart, knowing that your generosity not only blesses others but also brings joy and fulfillment to your life.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, guide us as we navigate the path of financial stewardship. Grant us wisdom to discern needs from wants and discipline to manage resources diligently. May our obedience be a testament to Your grace. May we find peace in managing our finances, knowing that You are the ultimate source of provision. Amen.
