In this week’s Sunday Prayer, Hillary prays for us to constantly be seeking our significance from the Lord instead of from our work.

Seeking Our Significance from the Lord instead of Our Work

by Hillary Baggett

Heavenly Father,

We praise you for the work we have to do on this earth whether for days or decades. For those who are paid or volunteer, help us to work as though we are indeed working for you, Lord! Bless those who are working and wearing a uniform to protect and serve our country, preserving our freedom. Remind us all that freedom is never free and you know this all too well.

Gracious Lord, thank you for the sacrifice of your one and only Son, Jesus – whom you sent to earth and then sacrificed to take away the sins of the world. Thank you for the example you give us Lord – to work hard and cheerfully as if it is all for you, Lord – because we long to give you glory! (Colossians 3:23)

Be with all those who are looking for jobs – within the military, the wives who support their service member and move around the globe, those who are transitioning out of the service, and perhaps retiring. Lord, guide our eyes to seek your face in the midst of our workday as well as the search for work and significance. Steer us clear from obstacles that discourage us, and show us your will for our lives.

May our work be an overflow of our deep love for you.

Bless the volunteers around the military communities this month, Lord! May their gift of time and talents be rewarded in your kingdom. Grant them peace knowing their value is in you and not their income. Allow our significance to come from our deeply intimate relationship with you, Lord. Grant us the discipline to work with joy, to commit to showing up each day, and to give our employers and supervisors our very best.

Bless and watch over the family members of those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom in the line of duty.

Protect the minds and hearts of all those who are battling depression and anxiety at work. Guard against the spirit of suicide for all our service members and their families.

Create in us clean spirits and hearts, Lord.

We love you, Lord, and praise you for the gift of work.

In the name of Jesus’, we pray.

Amen
